What the German Words on Our Designs Mean

· Style & Merch

We're from Dresden, so most of the words on our designs are German. If you don't speak it, here's what they mean and where you'll find each one. (Our album titles have a post of their own.)

What does Küssen mean?

Küssen means "kissing". It's signed along the edge of two of our designs: the Küssen Heart, where the 01099 digits melt into one deep-red bubble heart, and the back of Küssen GmbH, which has an orange version of the same heart. On its front, KÜSSEN GMBH sits over SOMMER SONNE, "summer sun". GmbH is the German short form for a limited company.

What is Halbtrocken?

Halbtrocken means "semi-dry", the word you'd read on a bottle of wine. On the back of the design, a doodled wine bottle with a 01099 label stands next to three glasses under wobbly HALB TROCKEN lettering.

What does Ist die Family mean?

"01099 ist die Family" means "01099 is the family". On the back of that design, the words run in a circle around a sunny park: a tree, two benches, a checked picnic blanket and a river.

And Skizzen, Anders and alaunpark?

  • Skizzen means "sketches". The design is a page of black ink doodles: hand signs, a band on stage, a crowd and little 01099 tags.
  • Anders means "different". It arches in tattoo-flash script over roses, stars and hearts.
  • alaunpark is the Alaunpark, a park in Dresden-Neustadt. You'll find its sign in the Blaue Stunden collage.

Which one should you pick?

Go with the word you like the sound of. You don't need to speak German to wear it, and if someone asks what it means, now you know.
